Tullamore Canoe Club
Tullamore Canoe Club was established in 2003 by Van Gillessen, the current Chair. The club is actively involved in promoting canoeing and water sports in the Tullamore and Midlands area as well as at national events. The club collaborates with various organizations to offer diverse programs and opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Tullamore Canoe Club offers a range of activities, including:
Paddling Skills:
The club provides training from introduction to advanced skills in kayaking, canoeing, sea kayaking, SUPs and canoe sailing. The club hosts “Schools Splash and Dash” sessions to introduce paddling to school children and we organize summer camps focused on water sports and canoeing. Tullamore Canoe Club is involved in community paddling events.
Canoe Polo:
The club promotes canoe polo, providing equipment and training for junior paddlers (over 10) and adults. Basic swimming skills are required, and training sessions are held on Thursday evenings.
Special Needs Coaching Programs:
We offer coaching programs tailored for individuals with special needs.
Special Olympics Support: The club provides coaching, training, and event support for Special Olympics athletes, collaborating with Special Olympics Tullamore to help athletes compete at various levels.
River Development:
Tullamore Canoe Club works with the Offaly Local Water Authority and Tullamore Tidy Towns to develop and utilize the Tullamore River for tourism, club activities, and educational purposes.
Collaborations:
The club collaborates with organizations such as Special Olympics Tullamore, Offaly Autism Association, Offaly Wheelchair Association, Offaly Rehab, Offaly services for the Blind, Offaly Deaf society, Offaly and Tullamore Scouts, Offaly Local Water Authority, Tullamore Tidy Towns, and Canoeing Ireland. They also work with West Offaly Training Adventure and Offaly Sports Partnership to deliver water sports programs.
